11:53 pm - Stan Lee's Lightspeed (2006)
"All one of the robbers kept babbling about was this guy. Here one minute and gone the next. Pshoo! Flash of light. Combine that with a reporter's flair, and now we gotta deal with some superhero wannabe in a leotard."

Grade:  D

Quick Review: The fact that it tried made it all that much worse. They should have played it for laughs.

Full review:
I've given this movie D over a ZOMG FAIL, because the Python is a interesting villain. Also, the make up is good.

And to be honest, you can't  ask too much of it going in. Yes, it has Stan Lee's name on it, but is based off a reality TV show. A bad reality TV show (that I saw every single episode of). It's also a sci-fi movie and you know they try to be bad.

11:47 pm - TV That Took The Off Ramp
Yes, Steven Seagal does still have a job appearing on TV somewhere.Cracked.com's The 5 Most Embarrassing Moments From 'Steven Seagal: Lawman' is probably the best way to watch this show. Still, if you're free one night and unable to sleep, this should be better than any pill you could take.

Most reality TV is going that way. The concepts, the people, and the budgets getting crazier all the time. (Jersey Shore anyone?) This madness does not just lend itself to recent times or reality TV. There is hardly a stranger time on TV than the 1990's.

1990 brought the world the infamous "Cop Rock". A police drama that was styled as a Broadway musical While the show has made the majority of 'Worst Ever' tv lists, at the time it was up for a handful of Emmys (admittedly for technical work).

12:18 am - COSPLAYER HELP!
I can't sew.

Not well, anyway. I want to cosplay for Aerith (FF7) for next years Dragoon Con, but there is no way I can make the dress...just forget the jacket. I'm fairly picky about it, but also willing to shell you a decent amount for it. Really, if it came out nice, I'd be happy to were the dress in a everyday way.

Anyone know where I could get this made or buy it?

I've had bad experience with the ebay-Chinese makers. The costume came out cheap, and fitted poorly. This one should have been easy too.

Any advice at all would be great.

(I still want to Cosplay Moka Akashiya from Rosario + Vampire, but I'd have to get a wig AND the costume.)

7:33 pm - FYI
The pastor has a glass of water, and drops a worm into it. The children watch the worm wriggle and wriggle in the water. Then the pastor produces a glass of bourbon, and drops a worm into it. The worm dies almost instantly.

“So children,” asks the pastor. “What does this teach us?”

A small child raises his hand and says, “If you drink bourbon, you won’t get worms.”

"Legend of the Seeker" is discount TV. Like the bad $20-made-in-3-days sci-fi of the past.

But Craig Horner's body is worth watching at least a few episodes. I'm normally 'meh' on star bodies, but--*drool*

10:17 am

On Wednesday Senators John Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) introduced a bill to establish the Office of the National Cybersecurity Advisor. This would be an arm of the executive branch that would have vast power to control Internet traffic to protect against cyber-threats.

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) ((Look it over, take time to pay attention to sec. 14 and 18.))

Before I go on I have something to say...This wouldn't be happening if Bush was in office. You know it is true. I invite you to stop, think, and imagine. Even if you are the most hardcore Obama fan and believe that he would never abuse this power consider that he will not be in office forever, but this law would not part with him.

Mother Jones sums it up best,

The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) gives the president the ability to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any “critical” information network “in the interest of national security.” The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president.

The bill does not only add to the power of the president. It also grants the Secretary of Commerce “access to all relevant data concerning [critical] networks without regard to any provision of law, regulation, rule, or policy restricting such access.” This means he or she can monitor or access any data on private or public networks without regard to privacy laws.

Section 14 is the nastiest in my eyes. It tosses out all privacy safeguards on Internet use for all networks. (Bye-bye Fouth Amnemnt!) With this the government to go after private networks without search warrants.

Cut leads to links, but there isn't much out yet.

9:59 pm - Um....no.
Muslim convert doesn’t see why she can’t be an Episcopal minister

But Redding said she felt her new Muslim faith did not pose a contradiction to her staying a Christian and minister.

"Both religions say there's only one God," Redding said, "and that God is the same God. It's very clear we are talking about the same God! So I haven't shifted my allegiance."

The imam at the Islamic Center in Seattle, Washington, where Redding prays said she brings the best of both traditions to her beliefs.

"Coming from an example of wanting to be Christ-like and coming from the perspective of wanting to follow the best example -- the example of our prophet Mohammed -- it all makes sense then," Benjamin Shabazz said.

There are many contradictions between the two religions. While Islam recognizes Jesus as a prophet, Christianity worships him as the son of God.

James Wellman, who chairs the department of comparative religion at the University of Washington, said that while it is not unusual for people to "mix and match" beliefs, it is almost unheard of for a minister to claim two religions.

"When you take ordination as a Christian minister, you take an explicit vow of loyalty to Jesus. It's hard for me to understand how a Christian minister could have dual loyalties," Wellman said.

Redding said she sees the theological conflicts but that the two religions, at their core, "illuminate" each other.

"When I took my shahada, I said there's no God but God and that Mohammed is God's prophet or messenger. Neither of those statements, neither part of that confession or profession denies anything about Christianity," she said.

According to Pyongyang, North Korea has two American journalists in custody after allegedly attempting to enter the DPRK illegally.  Laura Ling and Euna Lee apparently were in the Tumen region, where refugees flee from the oppressive Kim Jong-Il regime into somewhat less oppressive China.  The international incident puts pressure on the new administration to resolve the situation and get the two women back.

This comes at a particularly sensitive time for the Obama administration.  They have already protested the upcoming missile launch from North Korea, which Kim insists is a satellite but which the US and Japan believe is a long-range missile test.  Japan has threatened to shoot it down if it goes up, and the US has also warned Kim about a military response to the launch.  Ling and Lee give Kim an extra bargaining chip, and the media will certainly make it a very public issue.
